From the President: Welcome to the 2022/2023 Season

Welcome to our 2022/2023 season, the 143rd continuous year of your St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, one of renewal and exploration as our gift to you, our listeners and supporters. We are grateful for your presence and for inspiring extraordinary connections and creativity through music.

Marie-Hélène Bernard and Stéphane Denève

We believe that music is a universal language and in creating an environment where music is accessible to all. This is made possible through a more welcoming concert experience for new and returning audiences; broader programming that makes the orchestra a vital part of everyone’s life; lower pricing and free concert opportunities so that financial means are never a barrier to access. The SLSO makes deep and sustainable investments in partnerships with local artists, social agencies, arts organizations, schools, and teachers to connect our community more deeply in music. Last month, Stéphane Denève and his family made St. Louis their permanent home, moving from Europe to live in our great city. Stéphane’s commitment to you is to make education and learning a priority in programming and the concert experience.

In June, our Board of Trustees adopted a three-year strategic plan that shapes a strong pathway from a post-pandemic world to a transformed Powell Hall in 2025. We look forward to sharing more news about the project this season, which will support greater access to music and creativity through restored and transformative artistic platforms. In the meantime, we will be taking your SLSO to various venues across our region as we plan to engage diverse audiences, explore new concert formats, feature works by new and emerging composers, and elevate awareness for our extraordinary musicians in collaborative settings.

With your presence, we are reminded that shared experience is an integral part of the beauty and power of music. Your support of the SLSO mission makes a lasting impact in our community. Please consider making a gift to the SLSO to keep music and music education thriving in St. Louis by visiting slso.org/donate. We are deeply grateful for your charitable spirit, as philanthropy supports two-thirds of our annual budget.

Enjoy the 2022/2023 season!

Warmly,

Marie-Hélène Bernard, President and CEO
