Updated: Feb 21, 2019

An ensemble of St. Louis Symphony Orchestra musicians brought the heat of "Christmas with a Latin flair" to a rainy evening in a free community concert on Thursday, December 13.

Cortango – a tango, classical, and jazz fusion ensemble – played Latin-infused arrangements of Christmas standards like “Silent Night” and “Carol of the Bells” along with tango numbers including “Mala Junta” and “La Cumparsita.” The SLSO partnered with the City of St. Louis Parks Division to host the packed-house concert in Forest Park’s iconic Jewel Box.

Cortango members are Cally Banham (English horn and oboe), Asako Kuboki (violin), Chris Tantillo (viola), Melissa Brooks (cello), David DeRiso (double bass), and Adam Maness (piano and guitar). The SLSO plays close to 80 free concerts in the St. Louis region each season at various locations including schools, churches, care facilities, and more.
