When the final note of William Steffe's "Battle Hymn of the Republic" thundered through Powell Hall, the audience leapt to its feet to praise the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, and members of the St. Louis Symphony IN UNISON Chorus and St. Louis Symphony Chorus.
This was one of several highlights from a January 16 free community concert held in honor of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Led by Music Director Stéphane Denève and IN UNISON Chorus Director Kevin McBeth, the concert featured music written by Black composers and music with ties to King's life and legacy.
