"[Conductor Elim] Chan led the orchestra through fluctuating contrasts of instrumental textures," wrote the St. Louis American about the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra's performance of Felix Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3, "Scottish" on Friday, October 21, at the University of Missouri–St. Louis' Touhill Performing Arts Center.
These concerts marked Chan's return to the SLSO after a successful debut with the orchestra in 2022. Pianist Ingrid Fliter, meanwhile, is a frequent collaborator, appearing with the SLSO for the seventh time—this time performing Ludwig van Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto.
Opening the program was Elizabeth Ogonek's Moondog, one of almost 50 pieces of music performed by the SLSO for the first time throughout the 2023/2024 season.
