A Night of Opera Music Comes to Powell Hall, June 24

Updated: Jul 23

Few things compare to the musical drama of opera. As the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis mark the 43rd year of their collaboration, the SLSO announces a one-night-only concert full of instrumental favorites from operas.

The SLSO will return to Powell Hall on Thursday, June 24, for a concert of opera music. The orchestra performed eight weekends of concerts from late March through mid-May.

Operatic Encore with the SLSO, scheduled for Thursday, June 24, at 7:30pm, is a 75-minute concert that features some of the most popular instrumental selections from the opera repertoire, including Fidelio, The Magic Flute, Cavalleria rusticana, William Tell, and more. Making her SLSO debut in this concert is Conductor Daniela Candillari, a conductor whose work has taken her to many of the greatest opera houses in the world, including the OTSL stage this summer. SLSO Assistant Concertmaster Erin Schreiber takes center stage as the featured soloist on Pablo de Sarasate’s Carmen Fantasy.

Tickets are $15-$60 and are on sale now. To purchase tickets, call the SLSO Box Office at 314-534-1700 or visit slso.org. Box Office hours are Monday through Friday, 10:00am to 3:00pm. This concert does not include singers.

Enjoy complimentary beer and pretzel samples courtesy of Schlafly Beer and Gus’ Pretzels outside of Powell Hall prior to the concert from 6:30-7:30pm. Full concessions will be available for sale inside, where patrons are asked to consume all food and beverages at their assigned seats.

SLSO Assistant Concertmaster Erin Schreiber, left, will solo on Saraste's Carmen Fantasy in the program, which will be led by conductor Daniela Candillari in her SLSO debut.

The SLSO will maintain its operating plan that adheres to the highest standards of health and safety for patrons, musicians, and staff. This plan currently includes a socially distanced seat map, limits contact, and requires audience members, staff, and string players of the orchestra to wear masks. The SLSO is evaluating procedures for future concerts based on updated guidance from the City of St. Louis and the CDC. We continue to collaborate with a team of medical experts on our safety protocols and are committed to providing patrons with a safe and welcoming environment to experience the power of music. The 20/21 SLSO Classical Season is presented by the Steward Family Foundation.
